Naarden, 2 June 2020 – On 2 June, a new Dutch cargo bike brand will be launched: Carqon. Designed to provide the best cargo bike experience for young parents, this ambitious project has taken years of development, and the result is a premium e-cargo bike with unique features. Available through Carqon.com and through selected dealers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Denmark.
A family cargo bike with ‘the best of everything’ in design, safety, functionality, and technology – that was the starting point for the developers of Carqon: a cargo bike that wants to encourage parents to leave the car behind more often. Reaching that goal required new, innovative specifications.
Ground-breaking range
With a range of 120 to 140 kilometres, Carqon has the longest range in the cargo bike market. Carqon uses the latest generation, powerful mid-engine made by Bosch (Bosch Performance CX Cargo Line) and offers the option of a double battery. This creates a new freedom to push boundaries. The Carqon cargo bike will take you farther than ever before.
A first: unique door in the box
Carqon is the first family cargo bike to have a door on the side of the box. This way, children can get in and out by themselves and you no longer have to lift them. The door is equipped with a child safety lock and is seamlessly integrated into the box. The sturdy HDPE plastic box is elevated so that children can sit safely in the box. The bike can accommodate two children and a baby in a Maxi Cosi carrier.
Award-winning design
The 100% aluminium frame has a sporty geometry and high torsional stiffness, improving biking performance. The low centre of gravity, in combination with sturdy Schwalbe tires and fork suspension, provides a comfortable, smooth biking experience. Carqon’s design has won several awards thanks to its distinctive character.
Smooth cable steering
The Carqon is equipped with the ‘Double Cable Steering System’: technology straight from the automotive industry. The double cable steering system provides a direct, smooth steering experience. Equipped with hydraulic disc brakes (Tektro Dorado 4-Piston) in four places, Carqon guarantees safe, even braking power.
Dutch craftsmanship
Carqon is part of the Accell group, which also owns other well-known bicycle brands such as Batavus, Babboe, Sparta, Koga, Haibike, and Winora. Production and assembly take place at Accell in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. This collaboration makes it possible to combine knowledge, quality, and premium-quality parts in a cargo bike with which we aim to set a new standard in the cargo bike market.
Limited edition
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, Carqon will start off with a limited product run. The first cargo bikes will be distributed to premium bike shops in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Denmark 4-6 weeks after the launch. An up-to-date overview of available test locations can be found at www.carqon.com. Carqon’s production will be scaled up gradually over the coming weeks.
